5 Reasons You Can’t Be a Good Person Without Jesus!

I had a dream warning me about having sex with a unfaithful man. That was the Holy Spirit warning me of my potential to sin.

Having a hard time breaking destructive patterns in your life? Can’t seem to stop doing the same old? Do you keep hurting the people you love? Ever wonder, “Why can’t I get it right?

We have all been there. Luckily, I have been there and I came back with a solution for you. You need the power of Jesus in your life. No other religion or guide can give you the power needed to make lasting changes in your life. Trying to be a good person won’t work… You don’t have the strength to do it.

At this point, your doubt may be speaking to you: The Bible was created to brainwash people. The Bible has changes and edits made so it can’t be the word of God. You don’t have to follow the Bible just be a good person.

I suggest you push past your doubt to evaluate the true foundations of Christianity. Don’t remain uneducated about the power of God’s word and Jesus’ death on the cross. Is there a possibility that Christianity is just what you need to make the next best steps in your life?

Point 1: You can’t be a good person without Jesus!

Sure, you can do and say the right things for now. But, what if everyone turned against you? You were accused of doing much wrong. You were fired from your job? Your spouse left you and your children died? You think my words are drastic, but that’s what causes much sin in the world. People are in PAIN! They don’t know how to deal with the enormous amounts of wrongs they have experienced, even if they caused it to themselves. Then, they lash out and become people they are ashamed of.

Then, you have the prideful people that judge the ones that don’t know how to deal with their pain. The prideful individual feels their actions are less “sinful” or “impure” and overlook their own issues – judgment, criticism, negativity, superiority complex, escapism, lack of sympathy, etc.  Put these people in a situation that they have never experienced and watch them struggle to avoid being like the people they have judged. I can speak to this… Because, I was one of those prideful people!

Only Jesus Christ can give people the power to be better people. Rules, lists, and guides are not able to bring lasting change in the lives of people. In fact, much of mankind struggle with sin because they are trying to fix themselves. You can’t fix yourself. You can put a bandaid over your problems but the unhealed wound will continue to bleed.

I once thought I was a PERFECT. I realized that I was very broken and unwise. Without God’s help, I would of been in and out of dysfunctional relationships. I would of been depressed, potentially addicted to drugs and other ways to escape pain. When I first heard God speak to me, He told me to, “Make sure you pray from now on.” He knew I’d need His strength to exit bad situations and grab hold of His goodness for my life.

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” 1 John 1:8-10

“All a man’s ways are pure in his own eyes, but his motives are weighed by the LORD.” Proverbs 21:2

Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?  How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” – Matthew 7:3-5

Point 2: The Gospel of Jesus Works!

The only way to access Heaven, the most pure place, is by accepting Jesus Christ as your savior. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6

I take the Bible as the gospel truth and I stand firm that God will bless me if I seek him to keep me pure. And so far, everything that I’ve read in the Bible has come true in my life. He has showed me the way to the Father and he purifies me and speaks to me. The gospel of Jesus works in transforming lives from broken to beautiful.

Point 3: Only Jesus Can Fix You!

God does not want to punish you for doing the wrong things. He wants to empower you to do the right things through the strength of Jesus!

Jesus died on the cross to give people the strength to defeat the sin in their lives. After He died he gave the Holy Spirit to those who accepted Jesus. The Holy Spirit lives inside us and guides our path to purity.

Before the cross, He created ways for people to rely on His power but they started corrupting those methods. For instance, before Jesus came the Pharisees would follow God’s rules but they would still find loopholes to the rules, so they could follow their sinful desires. They would live a life that looked holy to everyone around, but they were sinful people inside.

The truth? No one can follow all the rules in the Old Testament or the rules of any religion. No one can be a good person in their own strength. If you think you can, you are prideful and the very definition of imperfect. We are all capable of great evil when put in the wrong situation at the right time.

Jesus died on the cross to remove the old purification rituals  – they would burn pure animals to remove human sin. He was the FINAL burnt offering. When He died on the cross, He did a couple of things:

  • Removed the need for rituals and impossible lists to be considered good
  • Gave all humanity the potential to access Heaven
  • Offered the Holy Spirit to help us live holy lives
  • Offered us the strength of God to defeat sin
  • Gave us the free gift of forgiveness

Point 4: We Must Accept Jesus, To Receive The Holy Spirit!

We need to accept what Jesus did on the cross so we can accept his help to become better people. “The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26:

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26

“And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Act 2:38

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.” Ezekiel 36:26-27

Point 5: You Can’t Resist The Devil Alone!

We are prone to sin by our weak nature. Left to our own, humans can’t manage to do anything right. We can try but once again… The right situation while in the wrong mood… and BAM we are doing horrible things.

In fact, I had a dream warning me about having sex with a unfaithful man. In the dream, I ignored the warning signs to be with him because I was lonely. In real life, I wanted to do the same thing. But, the dream helped me to avoid the situation.

That is the Holy Spirit warning me of my potential to sin. I would NEVER think I’d be in that situation. I’ve been celibate for almost ten years now and very focused on my goals. However, I’m not perfect and capable of falling into the devil’s traps. God is sympathetic to this human problem. He created a way to avoid the devil’s plots against our lives by giving us the Holy Spirit.

No other source of power can help us avoid sin. No other power can clean us up. No other power can change us from the inside. No other power can give us the strength to live perfect lives, except Jesus. This is why we must spread the GOOD NEWS. This is why everyone must accept the beautiful name of Jesus, so they can access power that can truly bring lasting change to their lives.

God has been trying to help us escape sin since the Old Testament. “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” Genesis 4:7

“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer…” John 16:7-15

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:15-17
